Youngster Jack Friend was King’s Lynn Town’s ‘best friend’ after rescuing a deserved point for his side at Stratford Town on Tuesday night.

Second-half substitute Friend popped up with a last-minute leveller just a few minutes after the hosts had taken the lead.

Stratford had only lost two games at home all season and Lynn could have easily made it three had they taken their chances in Warwickshire.

Gary Setchell was forced into two changes to the side that triumphed at Dunstable on Saturday.

David Bridges (dead leg) and Michael Clunan (illness) both missed the game and were replaced by Liam Fryatt and Sam Gaughran respectively.

Alex Street was called upon to make a good save to deny Richard Gregory before foiling home frontman Mark Magee minutes later.

Returning skipper Gaughran, making his first start since early January, had the best first half chances for Lynn when his thunderbolt from 40 yards cannoned back off the woodwork.

A superb point blank save from Jamie Cutts kept out Jacek Zielonka as Lynn began the second half brightly.

Stratford’s Gregory then found the side-netting when he should have scored, but five minutes later Jamie Sheldon and Magee combined to set up Kieran Westwood to fire the hosts ahead.

Lynn responded straight away, when Lee Smith’s free-kick hit the wall, before Friend netted with a curling effort which took a deflection.

The Linnets should have wrapped up all three points in the dying stages with both Lee Stevenson and Sam Mulready spurning opportunities in front of the target.

Lynn: Street, R. Fryatt, Young, Miller, Castellan, Smith, L. Fryatt (Mulready 62), Hurst (Edge 90), Zielonka (Friend 77), Stevenson, Gaughran. Unused subs: Hilliard, Pearson. Booked: Gaughran, Hurst. Scorer: Friend 89.
