Fakenham Town 2
Walsham Le Willows 2
By Ed Colman
Fakenham Town came from behind twice to salvage a hard fought point in their Thurlow Nunn Premier Division encounter on Saturday.
The point leaves the Ghosts 10th in the division, ahead of next weekend’s FA Vase trip to UCL outfit Yaxley.
The first chance of the afternoon fell to Ashley Jarvis, after 15 minutes, but despite Jarvis rising well to meet Robbie Harris’s cross the midfielder headed wide of the target.
The first half an hour saw few chances, in a tight and competitive match with Jarvis again going close, after 36 minutes, however Walsham keeper Liam Bryant made the first save of the afternoon as he dived well as the score line remained level.
At half-time the Ghosts had enjoyed the better of the first half action, however just four minutes after half-time Andrew Wood opened the scoring with an impressive curling effort from 18 yards out.
Fakenham responded well though, and were level just nine minutes later; as Josh Youngs headed home from James Page’s corner.
The game remained competitive and just six minutes later Walsham had the upper hand again, Lee Sim restoring the Willow’s lead as his powerful long range effort got the better of Tommy Rix in the Fakenham net.
Just two minutes later and Page’s free-kick fell to the feet of Jarvis, who pulled the trigger from close range to bring the hosts back on level terms with 66 minutes played, concluding a frenetic start to the second half which saw four goals in the space of just 17 minutes.
Both sides went in search of a winner in the closing stages and Jarvis went closest with 10 minutes to play, but his long range effort clipped the post.
The score line remained unchanged as Wayne Anderson’s side had to settle for a share of the spoils, despite an injury time chance for Harris to seal all three points.
