Whitton U 2 Fakenham Tn 3
Big decisions paid off for manager Wayne Anderson with FakenhamTown returning from Suffolk having taken all three points thanks to a last-minute winner.
Anderson opted to leave regular starter Sam Garner among the substitutes at Whitton then introduced him to great effect on the hour as the winger soon put the Ghosts 2-1 up then won the game in the final minute.
Anderson said: “I made the change and got questioned before the game but it paid off and we walked off the field with the three points.
“Sam has been superb for us all season and it’s not easy to leave someone out who has been playing well but to bring him on in a game like that – he gives you something else and that pace to go past players.
“It was a risky decision but I knew that their centre-half was a bit slow so we put Kyle Plumb on him in the first half, we tired him out, then we bring someone on with a bit of pace and it pays off.”
Fakenham had opened the scoring in the 30th minute through Robbie Harris before Allicion Blake equalised for Whitton on 51.
Garner’s first on 70 restored the advantage, from Harris’s cross, then Chris Williams levelled again on 78 but Garner had the final say – again from a Harris delivery – to keep the Ghosts eighth in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division table.
