It was the delayed ‘Battle of the Fens’ at Wisbech Town FC on Sunday.
LEAGUE CUP FINAL
England’s Hope, league champions, were after the double and up against the defending cup champions CSKA FC.
The game certainly didn’t go to league form as CSKA made it two years unbeaten in the League Cup after they came away with a hard-fought 1-0 win, thanks to Dean Miller’s header.
Hope carved out a few notable chances but found Alex Street in goal more than a match. It seemed Hope just didn’t get going and CSKA dug in deep in front a large crowd at Wisbech Town. This memorable win was CSKA’s first over Hope this season.
HARDY SHEEN CUP FINAL
CSKA Young Boys were looking to make it a day to remember for the CSKA club as they took on Tydd St Mary.
CSKA started at a frantic pace and sent in shots from all angles, but without troubling the keeper too much.
Tydd took the lead against the run of play when Gary Simons’ effort went in off the cross bar from close range after a good knock back by Tim Lowe.
The lead didn’t last until half-time. Tommy Brazil finished off a flowing team move by rifling home from 15 yards.
Claudio Cerquiera was the star of the show in the second half as his two exquisite goals put the game beyond doubt.
The scoring was completed by Jake Gent and Man of the Match Joe Reed.
Thanks to all who attended the finals and to Wisbech Town for their excellent hospitality.
March Saracens rounded out an impressive end to the season with a 2-1 win over Shouldham with Alan Irvine and Dan Smethurst scoring the goals. Dan Edwards scored for Shouldham.
West Winch fought well at MacMillan but The Green Army came away 4-1 victors thanks to Jonny Harnwell, Adam Key, E Peck and A Jordan. Bradley Kennedy scored Burt’s consolation.
