Children from Dersingham VA Primary and Nursery School attended the Cross-Country Championships at Gresham’s Prep School on Friday, where they competed with over 600 other children from schools across the county.
Iris Harmer won the girls’ under 9 race, smashing the course record and beating 166 other competitors. Hazel Harmer and Maddison Neal also finished in the top 30 and Erin Earnshaw-Smith came in the top 100.
The boys’ U9 race saw Alfie Jackson and Oliver Booth finishing in the top 20 in a race with 179 children competing. Henry McNeil finished in the top 25 and Tommy Lee, Rhys Huckle and Sonny McNeil finished in the top 100.
The girls’ U11 race saw Amy Harmer finishing in the top 35 out of 160 competitors with Amber Vertigan finishing in the top 55 and Keeley Bell and Eve Hipkin in the top 150.
The boys’ U11 race had 200 competitors, which was fiercely fought. Jack Bolderstone, Ethan Bayfield, Hugh Howes and Lee Huckle had fine displays. All children have been picked to represent the school again at the Smithdon cluster cross country event, to determine who will go forward to the county finals in November.
