The King’s Lynn Academy under 12 boy’s football team have followed their winning performance at the West Norfolk Indoor 5-a-side Championships with a visit to Norwich City FC.
The team, consisting of Thomas Beeby, Harry Appleton, George Pooley, Ryan Smith (captain), Lewy Young, Ryan Batten, Maksims Prohorovs and Josh Stone, played a friendly 6-a-side match on the Carrow Road pitch before watching the Premier League clash between Norwich and Arsenal.
KLA maintained their unbeaten season with a 2-1 victory against Sir John Gleed School. It was a competitive match with Sir John Gleed leading 1-0 at the break despite Smith seeing his effort rebound off the woodwork.
KLA increased their work rate in the second half and after Batten had come close, Pooley scored a well-earned equaliser with a low drive into the bottom corner from long range.
After a succession of missed chances KLA got their reward when Prohorovs scored the winner in the final minutes with a well taken finish from close range, following a good save from the opposition goalkeeper.
The team, joined by fellow Year 7 team mates Josh Andrews and Alfie Harvey and Year 9 assistant coaches Rudi Stevens and Dafydd Roney-Morgan, then took their front row seats in the Norwich and Peterborough stand to watch Norwich frustrate Arsenal and earn a 1-1 draw.
David Endersby, teacher at KLA, said: “The boys conducted themselves impeccably once again.
“A massive thankyou must also be offered to Mr May and Miss Groom for their support on the day.”
The team, still buzzing from their achievements, will now continue their preparations for the upcoming County Cup round two clash away to Cromer Academy, today (Friday).
