King’s Lynn Town FC were tonight (Thursday, November 17) closing in on the signing of Ryan Hawkins from St Neots for an undisclosed sum.
The Linnets were expected to unveil the youngster at an early-evening press conference last night.
Hawkins, 21, joined the Saints from Dereham Town on a two-year contract in the summer of 2015.
The winger recently spent four weeks on trial at League Two side Newport County.
Saints’ boss Andy Davies this week went on record to say that St Neots and Hawkins were parting on ‘amicable’ terms.
Hawkins’ last season with Dereham Town saw him notch 24 goals for the Magpies, where he was voted as player of the season.
He was one of several players to be recruited from the Norfolk area by then Saints boss David Batch.
The winger’s arrival follows hot on the foosteps of Toby Hilliard signing a contract at The Walks (see last Tuesday’s Lynn News) until the 2018/19 season, with a further year option available.
Hilliard told kltownfc.co.uk: “King’s Lynn is my home club and I’m grateful that I have earned the opportunity for a contract.”
Club chairman Stephen Cleeve said: “Over the past couple of weeks scouts from other non-league and football league clubs have been taking a look at Toby and it was agreed that we would put him on a club contract.
“I’ve also been looking at one, maybe two, more players to maybe put on contract as well but that’s something that we will address on a later date.”
