King’s Lynn Town FC will have to dig deep if they are to reach the end-of-season play-offs.

That’s the verdict of Linnets boss Gary Setchell after seeing his side suffer back-to-back defeats over the festive period.

Lynn found themselves on the wrong end of a seven-goal thriller at Barwell on Boxing Day before losing 2-1 to FC United of Manchester on Sunday (see page 39 for report).

The Walks outfit now face crucial home fixtures against Stamford on Thursday (New Year’s Day, 3pm) and Halesowen on Saturday.

Stamford are managed by former Linnet David Staff.

Setchell said: “We’ve got two home games now and realistically we’ve got to win both of them.

“It gets harder because with us losing both games over Christmas it is putting more pressure on our home fixtures.

“We have got to dig deep now.

“When you are on a losing run your confidence isn’t quite there and sometimes when you are playing well and not getting what you deserve it keeps putting more pressure on you.”

Lynn will be without wide-man Jake Jones who is expected to be sidelined for some time after picking up a hamstring injury during Sunday’s defeat.

Setchell, whose side have only won one of their last eight games, said: “We expect to do well and at the minute I think we are slightly under-achieving with our league position.

“Not by much, I’m not saying we should be in the top-five, but by the end of the season I’m hoping we can get ourselves into the top eight.

“I want to keep moving forward. With the players we’ve got and having looked at most teams in the league now, I feel we are more than capable of doing that.

“If we can string four or five wins together on the spin then everyone knows that we will be in or around the top-five.

“I wanted 10 points from the 15 available over Christmas, but the maximum we can get now is nine so anything less than that would be something of a disaster.”
