Linnets: Turner speaks of excitement

NEW Linnets signing Jason Turner has spoken of his excitement after completing his move from Wellingborough on Thursday night.

The frontman, who hit a nine-minute hat-trick against Lynn earlier this season, said: “ I’m really excited about joining Lynn, they are a really big and are doing very well this year. I just hope I can come here and score the goals.

“I always seem to score against Lynn so hopefully I can now do that for them rather than against them.”

Lynn beat off competition from title rivals Long Buckby for Turner’s signature.

Turner said: “I chose Lynn ahead of Long Buckby because of the size of the club, the great amount of support they have and the quality of the stadium they play in. For me these things easily pointed me to signing for Lynn.

“At this level I know I can score goals so hopefully I can now score the goals to get them promoted which would be a huge achievement for me and the club.”

On his new capture, Linnets boss Gary Setchell said: “Jason will give us another option up front. He’s a proven goalscorer at various levels, especially this year when he scored a hat-trick against us.

“There is a stat that he has scored three hat-tricks against Lynn for three different clubs and lost each time.

He got 30 goals last year for Wellingborough and has already scored 21 goals in 26 appearance this season and no disrespect to Wellingborough but they are not a top side in the league.

“If you put him in our team with the other strikers we have at the club and the quality of service he will get then we know he can finish and it will give us that extra bit of firepower that we needed.

“I hope all the players play a big part for the rest of the season. Jason’s first job is to get established in the team, which I don’t expect to be easy as the other strikers won’t just roll over for him.

“He brings good competition in the striking area and it will help take the load off for certain players.

Setchell added: “He is a great addition to the squad.

“I went to the chairman once again and said can I bring him in? He has given me the greenlight for me to bring in what I think is another top quality footballer.”
