Midfielder Quigley back with King’s Lynn Football Club

Former supporters’ player and player of the season Dan Quigley is back at The Walks after leaving the club under a cloud more than a year ago.

The midfielder was shown the door at The Walks in April 2015 having failed to appear for the match against Whitby Town – his third no-show of that season.

Quigley returns to the club following a spell with AFC Rushden and Dimonds where he played 37 games and scored six goals along the way.

Rushden narrowly missed out on promotion to the Southern Premier League, losing out to St Ives in the play-off final.

Manager Gary Setchell said: “With us losing both Bridgo (David Bridges) and Smudger (Lee Smith) we had a void that needed filling in the midfield.

“It was a no-brainer for me to bring Quigs back and the supporters know what the lad is all about.

“He’s come back and been given another chance to prove himself to the fans and myself.

“Quigs has missed playing for the club and being around the lads so having him back will certainly lift the dressing room.

“I’m hoping he can hit the ground running and put in some good performances for the football club.”

The Diamonds have been switched to the Evo Stik Northern Premier League First Division South at Step 4 for the 2016/17 season.

The 26-year-old no-nonsense midfielder first signed for Lynn in June 2012 from Long Buckby.

His first spell at The Walks saw him make 137 appearances, scoring 12 goals.

The Linnets have arranged a summer friendly against Wisbech Town on Saturday, July 16, after Lynn’s original friendly against Stamford was called off.

Gary Setchell’s side started their pre-season at Lynn’s King Edward VII School on Saturday.

Declan McAvoy (illness), John Sands (work) and Matty Castellan (in America) were all absent from the first session.

Linnets boss Setchell said: “Gary (Mills) took the session and all of the players came back in good shape.

“It went really well and the players are trying to buy into what we are trying to achieve.

“I’m hoping to bring another midfielder in either later this week or early next week and we’ve managed to assemble a squad onthe same budget as last season.

“Like the chairman said at the fans’ forum, if we get A right then B will follow.”

The early fixtures for the FA Cup are due to be announced later this week, with Lynn’s 2016/17 Southern League programme set to be revealed at 9am on Friday, July 15.
