Linnets boss Gary Setchell hailed a 40-yard howitzer from midfielder Michael Clunan which won the game at high-flying Cirencester.

Setchell said: “That’s probably up there with the best goal since I’ve been at the club in the last five years.

“There’s not many players in the division who could have done that I wouldn’t have thought.

“The goalkeeper was off his line. Michael has picked the ball up 40 yards out and it wasn’t just a chip, he’s thundered it straight into the stanchion.”

Setchell said of Lynn inflicting a first league loss on the Centurions: “I’m delighted as we know we are better than the start we have made this season.

“Whatever we did wrong at Hitchin we’ve put right here today.

“I’m a proud manager as we came into this game under it a little bit.

“The players have run themselves into the ground for the club today. We scored a fantastic goal and looked dangerous in and around their box in the first half.

“In the second half we have had to show a different side to our game. We’ve displayed heart, desire, passion and commitment and put our bodies on the line.”

Lynn will meet the winners of Saturday’s Wroxham v Fakenham FA Cup tie.
