South Creake football club are sporting brand new strip this year thanks to a two-year sponsorship deal with their local, the Plume of Feathers, a pub conveniently situated directly opposite their home pitch.
The deal also involves a number of match day balls.
“We’ve used the pub as our local on and off for years,” said new club manager and secretary, Steve Gooch, who has taken over from Dan Studd, manager for the previous ten years, before their home match at the weekend when they beat Hungate 9-1 to make a sparkling start to the season in Division Three of the North West Norfolk League.
“I decided I’d like to sponsor them,” said manager, Paul Vials. “I think the pub should be involved with the village.”
As a gesture of thanks the club framed one of the new shirts and presented it to Vials before the match. “I’ll hang it in the bar,” he said after he accepted it from team member, Tony Walker, who organised the sponsorship for the club.
“It’s nice to have the support of our village local,” said Gooch.
