Sport - Football: Swaffham stunned by two late goals

Thurlow Nunn

Division One

Swaffham Town 1

Newmarket Town 2

Two goals in the last five minutes saw Swaffham Town lose this top-of-the-table thriller at Shoemakers Lane.

Having taken a third-minute lead through Rory Harper, Paul Hunt’s side were unable to hold onto their advantage against the Jockeys.

Joe Jackson and Alex Vincent missed further opportunities to increase Swaffham’s advantage before Newmarket levelled matters five minutes from time.

Newmarket’s winning goal came through a miss-hit shot in the second minute of added time.

Fakenham Town 2

Downham Town 0

Goals from Matthew Gilchrist, against his former club, and Kyle Plumb saw Fakenham Town triumph in this Thurlow Nunn derby at the weekend.

The Ghosts always had the upper hand against their managerless visitors after the resignation of the club’s managerial team of Garth Good, Pete Brassett and Martin Saddleton following a dispute over club policy last week.

Downham are expected to release a statement on the managerial situation at the Memorial Field later this week.

Peterborough League

Division One

King’s Lynn Town Res 6

Farcet 0

King’s Lynn Town Reserves, who have applied to play at step seven in the Peterborough Premier League, delivered a six-y performance at home against Farcet.

The young side dominated the game from start to finish and goals from Beales and Moriera saw them lead 2-0 at the interval.

It was a similar story in the second period and Rust made it 3-0 after a well-crafted move.

Stannard, the youngest player on the pitch, bagged a goal with a 40-yard stunner before the enigmatic Beales added two more to his tally.
