Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division
Fakenham Town 1 Swaffham Town 2
Swaffham turned the tables by earning three points from their local derby visit to Clipbush Park on Friday. The Pedlars – who are rock bottom of the Thurlow Nunn Premier and 17 points behind Fakenham – dominated the first half.
Nick Castellan gave the visitors the lead with a strike from the edge of the area, beating home keeper Tommy Rix to his left, the ball smashing into the top right hand corner of the net.
The Ghosts’ efforts were comfortably dealt with by a firm Pedlars defence, the biggest threat coming from long throw-ins.
Five minutes into the second half, away captain Alex Vincent surged forward and was brought down in the box, his conversion from the penalty spot doubling the lead.
Fakenham’s Kyle Plumb got one back with 15 minutes to go, when a deep corner was headed home at the back post. Matty Gilchrist received two yellow cards.
Swaffham held on to take the three points back to Shoemakers Lane, but they are still six points adrift of second from bottom side FC Clacton. Tonight (Tuesday) the Pedlars travel to Ely City.
Swaffham Reserves trekked to Hemsby on Saturday. Two-nil down at half time, the Pedlars levelled through goals by Kurtis Callaby and Alan Woodcock only to go down 3-2 in the closing minutes.
Next Saturday they are at home to Horsford.
The Under 18’s once again had their game postponed to accommodate the backlog in fixtures for the Thurlow Nunn Youth Cup. They were in action yesterday evening at Clipbush Park in an effort to repeat the first team performance against Fakenham Town.
