Swaffham Town are on the road again this weekend as they travel to Holbeach United in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round tomorrow (Saturday 6).
The Pedlars travel to the United Counties League outfit off the back of a 1-1 draw on the opening day of the season at Saffron Walden Town.
While for Holbeach the tie will be their first competitive action of the 2016/17 season after they rounded off their pre-season fixtures with a 1-0 defeat at home to Spalding United on Tuesday night.
Swaffham boss Paul Hunt was delighted the way things came together for his side at the Bloods last time out and is hoping the result will have given his side a confidence boost.
“To have come away from a really tough game with a point off the back of a good performance really shows how quickly things have come together for us,” he said.
“The way the lads have gelled together has been great, I really couldn’t have asked for better.
“We have got lots of good quality players and some great personalities in the mix as well.
“Seeing how well everything came together having only had a couple of weeks in pre-season has hopefully given us all a confidence boost going into the FA Cup.
“I always look forward to FA Cup games and you know that when you come up against a side in the UCL Premier that is going to be a real battle but they are the sort of games that you relish playing in.
“We don’t know too much about Holbeach but for us it is more about focusing on ourselves and our own game plan and what we can achieve.”
The Pedlars will be without Luis Duarte and Dwayne Hockton for the tie, who both picked up injuries during last weekend’s draw.
Elsewhere Downham Town kick off their Thurlow Nunn First Division campaign when they travel to Cornard United tomorrow (Saturday) having rounded off their pre-season with a 1-0 victory over Cromer Town last weekend.
Connor Walker provided the only goal of the game at Cabbell Park and after a string of impressive performances over pre-season including a narrow defeat to higher level Thetford Town, Downham will be looking to carry that momentum into their league season this weekend.
