LINNETS boss Gary Setchell lauded Jack Defty after the striker recorded his 150th goal in competitive games in Lynn colours.
Defty’s opener against the Tulips saw him reach the latest landmark for his hometown club, with whom he made his debut for back in February 2004.
On Defty’s goalscoring exploits, Setchell said: “Jack’s not always pleasing on the eye to some people but if they saw the 10 or 11 games we were without him they would realise what a big player he is for this football team.
“It’s not a coincidence that since he’s been back we’ve been able to knock the ball around and get further up the pitch. He makes a massive difference for us.”
Setchell was delighted with Lynn’s latest three points, saying: “I thought we played very well and no disrespect to Spalding but 3-2 flattered them.
“We dominated the game, especially first-half where we looked back at our best like the St Ives and Spalding away games. We passed the ball, it stuck up front and we were tight at the back.
“We went to sleep twice and its cost us two goals. Saying that, we had to re-jig the back four twice because both my full-backs picked up knocks.”
The injuries picked up by Ashley Deeney and Jordan Yong were the only black spots for Lynn, who dominated for long periods of the game.
Setchell said: “Ashley has a tight hamstring that’s why we withdrew him on Wednesday.
“We thought it would be alright but he has just felt it, so hopefully he will only be out one or two weeks.”
“Jordan just felt something go in his foot, maybe like a bone, but hopefully he won’t be out for too long as he was different class today.”
Defty registered his 150th Lynn goal from close range.
It was 1-1 seven minutes later though, after Mowbray collected a Miller pass and curled home a stunning shot into the far corner.
The pace of Yong carved open Spalding and the left back rifled home clinically to put Lynn back in front at 2-1.
Fifteen minutes from time, Steve Spriggs turned home Lynn’s third after a scramble in the box.
Mowbray hit back almost instantly for the Tulips, but the Linnets, who missed a number of other chances, deservedly held on.
