Former Linnets player/boss passes away
ON Monday, the Linnets lost one of its true greats when former player-manager Reg Davies passed away, aged 79, at his Perth home in Australia.
Arriving from a short spell with Merthyr Tydfil, Reg took over the managerial reigns at The Walks on December 4, 1965, and stayed in the hot seat until December 1970.
He stayed at the club until the end of the 1971 season, before emigrating to Perth, in Australia.
Reg's managerial record at The Walks was played 265 games, 170 wins, 75 draws and 120 defeats.
As a player he made 217 appearances, scoring 29 goals.
Mick Wright, British record appearance holder, led the tributes to Reg Davies.
Wright, who played in all 81 first-team fixtures under the guidance of Reg in 1966-67, said: "Reg was the reason I stayed with Lynn and didn't move on elsewhere.
"He liked to play attacking football and gave both the likes of Dave Brookes and myself the licence to get forward.
"We set a record of undefeated games at home under him and as a player he was good at directing things and had a knack of knowing where to play the ball.
"Nothing gave him greater pleasure when we played away and he read in the opposition's programme that Lynn were one of the most attractive footballing sides in the league."
