The team building process for the 2015 King’s Lynn Stars began with Lewis Kerr and Joe Jacobs joining the club via the Fast Track draft which took place at BSPA headquarters on Wednesday afternoon.

For 2015 a new rule was introduced to the draft selection with clubs only allowed to protect a rider in Tier 1 or Tier 2 if he is their asset or rode for them this year.

The Stars had three riders in the draft and the Lynn management decided that Kerr was the one to keep hold of for next year.

The Young Brit had a fantastic debut season for the Stars last term where he often reached double-figure scores. Kerr will have a new partner at reserve next year after Lewis Rose was snapped up by Swindon.

The 21-year-old Jacobs becomes the Stars’ first new face for 2015. The Suffolk ace rode for Wolverhampton last year in the Elite League, scoring 123 points from 27 meetings.

Stars team manager Rob Lyon said after coming out of the draft: “We knew the risk by protecting Lewis Kerr.

“By doing that we would run the risk of losing Lewis Rose. Had Swindon not picked him then Leicester would have so we knew that he would be moving on.

“We wanted to keep him and I believe that we should have been able to. But everything happens for a reason.

“We are happy with Joe and I believe he can do a good job for us next season. The only negative is we will not get priority on him when fixture clashes happen next year because he is not our asset.”
