Lifestyles gains top Olympic mark
HUNSTANTON'S Lifestyles Festival, organised by West Norfolk Council and being run in association with Synergy, has been granted the Inspire Mark, the badge of the London 2012 Inspire Programme.
The London 2012 Inspire programme recognises innovative and exceptional projects that are directly inspired by the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Lifestyles, which began yesterday (Friday) and continues through until Sunday, is a celebration of extreme sports such as BMXing, kite surfing and inline skating, street culture and music.
BMXing has recently become an Olympic event.
It is hoped that with the opportunities that the Lifestyles festival provides for young people to have a go, that many will be inspired to take up this activity.
This year's event also includes performance arts, which have become a key element of Olympic opening ceremonies.
Live music has been a popular part of the Lifestyles Festival for several years, but for the first time this year, the event will feature a specially commissioned performance called Seagulls and Sunsets.
The show, which will take place at 10.30pm tonight (Saturday), has been put together by outdoor performance experts Walk the Plank.
This one-night-only show will weave fire effects with sound and performers, in a 15-minute spectacular.
The site will be defined with fire as the company's pyrotechnic performers produce an intimate but beautiful show with a soundtrack that will enhance the different pyrotechnic features.
The fire show will mark the end of Lifestyles' Saturday celebrations.
Lifestyles is now in its fifth year and is recognised as the extreme sports event in the eastern region.
This year's event is being run in association with Synergy. Synergy is a series of events that are part of Norfolk Celebrating Talent, the county-wide partnership programme to maximise opportunities arising from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The event features have-a-go sessions for schools in power kiting, windsurfing, sea kayaking, skateboarding, inline skating, BMXing, climbing, street art and street dance.

Over the weekend the festival will host the second leg of the British Kite Surfing Association's national competition.
Taking part in the kite surfing event will be sisters Danielle (14) and Chloe (12) Durrant, both from Smithdon High School, who will be competing in the Kite surfing competition.
They are being sponsored by Steve Murfet, of Hunstanton Kite Surfing School, who gave the girl's lessons in the art of Kitesurfing after they used to kite on land.
There will also be professional demonstrations inline skating, BMXing and skateboarding, street dance and street art.
