King’s Lynn Stars have been handed a massive boost with the news that Danish ace Niels-Kristian Iversen is to stay with the club for the foreseeable future.
The Roger Warnes Transport Stars No.1 took the decision over the winter to sit out the 2016 Elite League season, but agreed to be on stand-by to help his club out should they require it.
When new signing Troy Batchelor broke his arm in the close-season, Iversen rejoined the Stars for the opening stages of the campaign as cover for the Australian, and he will now remain in the team over the coming weeks.
Manager Rob Lyon said: “Niels isn’t able to commit to doing the full season with us and we fully understand that, but we’ve reached agreement that he will be extending his stay.
“During that time there will be matches when he is already committed elsewhere and which he will need to fulfil, so we’re aware we will need to cover for him on those occasions.
“But Niels will be with us for the foreseeable future, and that’s good news for all of us.”
The Stars return to action on Bank Holiday Monday when they are scheduled to face Belle Vue in the first Elite League match to be staged at the National Speedway Stadium (midday start).
Iversen also races in the first Grand Prix of the season in Slovenia tomorrow (Saturday, April 30).
