Playing in the Middleton Hall Golf Club Seniors Section Millennium Shield competition on Monday, June 8, Barry Fox played a 9 iron off the tee on the 13th hole.

He turned to his fellow competitors after watching the ball land on the green and bounce twice, saying: “That’s close.”

Dave Thompson, a fellow competitor, remarked: “That’s better than close, it’s gone in.”

Fox turned to find he had indeed missed his feat. This is Fox’s second ace at this hole and his third as he had previously managed a hole in one at his previous club.

l In the Millennium Shield Stableford 52 players took part in ideal conditions.

There were six players scoring 40 or more points. Stephen Thompson won with a score of 46 points and Robin Burton was runner up on count back with 40 points.
