Pelicans bounced back from a 5-1 thrashing at Bourne Deeping last week by comfortably beating the league’s bottom side at Lynnsport on Saturday.

The backline of Major, Page and Allsop plus Aldous in goal were able to keep their first clean sheet of the season. In a new 3-5-2 formation the midfield was able to defend and attack in numbers.

The returning Sheerin revelled in a midfield role and very nearly opened the scoring when his shot was brilliantly cleared off the line.

The rest of the midfield of Johnstone, Kerry, Batterham, Picton and Frost were equally efficient and chances fell to all of them in a first half which ended with Pelicans 3-0 up. Simons (2) and Lankfer punished defensive errors with aplomb.

The second half followed the same pattern as the first with the visitors coming out fighting but once again Aldous and the defence stood firm. The return of Page certainly helped that.

Simons completed his hat-trick with a fine finish and then notched a fourth after Kerry picked out Lankfer with an exquisite pass from his own half. Youngster Henry Frost grabbed his first 1st XI goal. Further chances fell to Johnstone, Dowers, Kerry and Lankfer.

Pelicans host high-flyers Ipswich East Suffolk tomorrow looking to positively finish the first half of the season.
