KLAA news

By Darren Reed

Has history repeated itself yet again?

A couple of weeks ago anglers were struggling to find any fish feeding on the rivers but just like last year, the big nets start to be reported as the season draws to a close.

Relief Channel, Denver-Downham: As like last year, was where the big bream suddenly started to get their heads down and to feed strongly.

Milder weather and the coloured water did help to get the bream to nearly 11lb feed.

Ton plus nets were being reported from the tip anglers, 20 bream were being caught in single sessions. Tench to 7lb were also showing on the same stretch. Pike to 21lb 8oz were also showing up near the sluice end of the Relief Channel.

Cut Off Channel: Tench to 7lb were reported during the final days of the season.

Middle Level, Peppers-Peters: Another venue which started to show bream to 5lb during the last week.

Springside: Yellow baits continue to reap the rewards as carp to 11lb have shown on the method feeder. This is the only water on KLAA that remains open, for day ticket anglers and KLAA members who have a permit until March 31, 2017.

Shepherd’s Port, Bear Lake: Odd carp feeding during the final stages of the season but has been relatively quiet on the feeding fish front. Method feeder was again the only rewarding method.

Shepherd’s Lake: Bream were the dominant feeders, supported by carp to 11lb. All the fish were showing on both bream style tactics and carp style method feeders. Tench to 3lb also showed.

Tottenhill: Carp to 9lb and bream to 4lb 8oz were showing on pellet, maggot and meat on both the tip and pole.

l A reminder that all KLAA waters are now closed other than Springside. The 2017/18 permits are now available from tackle shops. Shepherd’s Port and Tottenhill reopen on April 1.

Match results from Townsend Lakes fishery, Sunday, Woodpecker Pool: 1 Andy Adams - peg - 15 - 45lb 12oz - long pole pellet method feeder banded pellet; 2 Colin Begbie - peg - 13 - 40lb 12oz - long pole pellet on the deck shallow over the top with pellet; 3 Harry Morgan - peg 14 - 38lb 14oz - long pole pellet on deck.

* Carp at Nar Valley Fisheries are now on the move after the winter slumber.

This weekend has seen Lake Geneva produce four thirty pound plus fish, along with a good number of twenties. Bailiff Fred Marchant set a new personal best with a superb Common of 36lb 4oz and then added a Mirror of 28lb 2oz within hours to round of the session.

The largest carp of the weekend was a Mirror of 37lb 10oz, and the best catch was a five fish haul ranging from 17lb to 34lb. Fenn lake continues to produce quality carp and catfish. Tickets for the season will be on sale at the beginning of April.

Hobbs Lake Trout fishery, Pentney, is going well with some good rises to the hatch as the water temperature improves. Rainbows to 3lb are willing to take small black buzzers. For any information contact Chris on 07900 285313.
