The Mid-Norfolk Sunday Cricket League Challenge Cup Final will be held on Bank Holiday Monday at Sprowston Cricket Club’s Barkers Lane ground.

The final, organised by the league, will start at 1pm and will be between Bircham and Acle. Wayne Kercher and Russell Bird are the neutral umpires who have been appointed to officiate.

Colin King, chairman of the league, commented: “The Challenge Cup was first won in 1884 by Princes Street United Reform Church and had an illustrious history until 1967 when it seems to have disappeared for 47 years. It came to light last year and we immediately adopted it.

“Part of the magic of the day will be that Acle, who won the cup back in 1967, the year that the cup vanished, will be attempting to be reunited with it after 48 years”.

He added: “However Bircham have a strong side this year so it promises to be a tough battle. I just hope that we get good weather for this rather special day.”
