In the Mid-Norfolk Sunday Cricket League Challenge Cup Final, Bircham soundly defeated a very young and talented Acle side.

Batting first, they amassed a formidable score of 194 in their 30 overs. The prospect of rain caused the overs to be reduced. Facing a daunting target, Acle obviously decided to go for it.

When the rain began to fall, they came out with all guns blazing. This was a high risk strategy but wickets began to fall too quickly and they were bowled out.

Downham lost the Bernard Matthews Cup Final to Hethersett & Tas Valley in the final over.

Two towering sixes clinched the victory, when everyone was watching nervously, following the loss of several quick wickets. Downham were unable to make the breakthrough after they had posted 131 in their allotted overs.

Hethersett had 90 runs on the board before the first wicket fell but it was high drama all the way to the end.

Rain meant that the Norfolk Junior Cup Final had to be postponed until Sunday at noon. It will be played at Sprowston and will be between North Runcton and Mattishall.

n Bircham CC are holding the finals day of their cup, the Turner Cup on Sunday.

Plate final, 11am start: Thornham v Castle Rising. Cup final, 3pm start: Dersingham v Bircham.
