Mollie Patterson took on the best young table tennis players in England at the Cadet Girls’ National Cup – and came away with the silver medal.
The 13-year-old Brancaster Staithe player was invited to the tournament in Bristol because of her position near the top of the Table Tennis England rankings and took on the nine other top players in a round-robin event.
Seeded fifth for the event, she won seven matches, including 4-3 victories over second seed Charlotte Bardsley (8-11, 11-6, 11-5, 11-7, 8-11, 8-11, 12-10) and third seed Jasmin Wong (11-8, 13-11, 9-11, 9-11, 9-11, 11-9, 11-3) on her way to the silver medal behind top seed Denise Payet, who was unbeaten.
Mollie, who attends Smithdon High School in Hunstanton, recently won Young Sportswoman of the Year at the KL.FM West Norfolk Sports Awards.
She said: “It’s been a good tournament. I try not to give myself expectations apart from playing well.
“I know there’s a few areas I need to improve to challenge Denise.
“I think my best match was probably against Jasmin Wong but I played well against most of them.”
