At the weekend Ryston Runners member Gaye Clarke was crowned British Masters Champion in the W55 Heptathlon, finishing with an overall points score of 4,326, just shy of the club age group record held by Marlene Simmonds for more than a decade.
Clarke thought she was just shy of the club age group record held by Marlene Simmonds for more than a decade, but beat the club record due to the age graded multipliers changing.
Clarke now ranks one place above Simmonds on the all time list, just behind Penny Butcher by five or six points.
Returning from injury, Clarke managed to pull out some good performances to give her confidence as she goes into training for the World Masters Championships in Perth, Australia, in October, one of three Ryston athletes to feature in that competition.
Clarke’s individual event results were: javelin – 14.52m, shot – 6.93m, Long Jump – 3.86m, High Jump – 1.31m, 80mH – 14.77, 800m – 3:23.48, 200m – 32.34.
