The Anglian Schools Cross Country Championships (Norfolk v Suffolk v Northants v Cambs v Lincs) featured three Ryston Runners in the U13 Boys’ race.
Charlie Wakefield finished sixth, running for Suffolk as he attends Culford School.
Bailey Took, another Ryston member who is rapidly improving, came a very credible 21st running for the Norfolk team. Mackenzie Pilkington, who attends King’s School, Ely, achieved a fine 40th place running for Cambridgeshire.
The course was at the Royal Hospital School, Ipswich where conditions were described as: “Muddy and cold, but good for a proper cross country.”
Charlie has been selected for the national cross country in Birmingham but unfortunately this clashes with a very important county badminton event so he will probably not be running.
However, both Charlie and brother Harry are looking forward to the Anglian Prep Schools Championships at Woodbridge on March 1.
l Thea Howlett came a commendable fifth in the final of the U15 Girls 800m at Lee Valley Stadium in the Eastern AAA Championships on Sunday.
Despite having had tonsillitis last week she took the race to them in the final and led from the front, but simply didn’t have the ‘oomph’ on the last lap . Her best time on the day was 2:29.6, still very impressive for a girl of her age.
