The annual County Relays Gala at UEA Sportspark provided traditional fast and furious competition, with clubs from all over Norfolk battling it out for the title.
As holders of the title, West Norfolk Swimming Club sent A, B and C teams to compete in a wide variety of relay races for all ages over the 50m distance, in what is always a hugely enjoyable if somewhat frenzied atmosphere.
The A team were victorious in two events.
The Men’s Open 200m Medley was won by the very experienced and talented quartet of Nathan Wells, Ryan Sykes, Oliver Newton and Joseph Wells.
The same four swimmers also took second place in the Open Freestyle relay.
The Men’s 13/14 years Freestyle title went to the combined team of Sam Rose, Oliver Harris, Jacob Isle and Jake Lammas.
West Norfolk A also took nine second places on the night with teams comprising the following swimmers; Jenny Read, Molly Lee, Rachael Johnson, Lara-Grace Mount, Jake Lammas, Luke Bryan, Joseph Wells, Sam Peck, Keely Empson, Natalie Coogans, Sarah Vanderloo, Elise Sorrell, Sam Rose, Freddie Laws, Jacob Isle, Lucy Peck and Roxanne Uys.
West Norfolk’s valiant efforts were not quite enough to stop City of Norwich A winning the overall title.
But WNSC finished a very close second with some excellent swims across the whole team.
All the younger swimmers gained valuable experience of swimming in a 50m pool and had a taste of this exciting team event.
Many thanks to all the club’s supporters for enthusiastic vocal encouragement, poolside helpers and officials, and the coaching team.
