All four teams from Gallow (Fakenham) IBC were in action on Saturday in the County Leagues.
The Ladies A team travelled to North Walsham, which is a tricky green. The blocks all got off to a reasonable start but shot totals were tight throughout the match. However, Coralie Bell’s block once again won and Suzanne King, on her welcome return to the team, also skipped her block to victory. Although the other two blocks lost they kept it tight to ensure the aggregate went to Gallow 48 shots to 46. Final score 6 points to Gallow, 2 to North Walsham.
The B team entertained Lynnsport at home and came away with seven of the eight points. Rita Goold and her players (Mavis Lewis and Eileen Ledgerwood) fought back from 1-9 at the halfway point to win 16-9. Kathy Shepherd and Rose Thody also skipped a victory. Gina Horne, Roz Sparkes and Cath De Bernard battled but could not make it a clean sweep, they went down 13-19. Gallow won by 67 shots to 47.
The men’s A team were at Acle and a hard fought match resulted in a much needed five and a half points for Gallow. All had seemed lost until on the final end captain Danny Cawthorne took the shot bowl out with his last wood to score five shots and on another rink Malcolm Starkey fired and scored two to make the overall score Gallow 75, Acle 72.
This result sees the team in a relatively secure fifth place in the table.
The men’s B team hosted Woodlands B at home. Confidence was high after last week’s first win of the season and captain Bryan Barnes was not disappointed with the result. Sound wins on all rinks resulted in the maximum seven points and lifted Gallow up to fourth in the table; an excellent weekend for all the teams.
Next home fixtures are: tomorrow Ladies A v Acle; Saturday, February 18 Ladies B v Roundwood B (current league leaders); Saturday, Feb 25 Mens B v Pentney B.
