West Norfolk began their 2015 Junior Fenland League campaign with a trip to Boston to compete in round one.
This league is always a good opportunity for new swimmers to be introduced to competitive swimming in a friendly atmosphere.
Team manager Ryan Sykes opted to give a number of new recruits their first taste of league action, with Lemuel Agcaoli, Sophie Doig, Chloe Ramsey, Anya Richings and Ellie Shepperson all taking to the water.
They all swam extremely well, with Lemuel being particularly busy, competing in four individual races.
Junior Fenland also relies on experienced swimmers, and the team had an abundance of these. Rosie Muspratt was on form, winning the 13/u 50m breaststroke.
Isabel Jeffery and Leah Wightman were both winners in the 50m free and 50m back respectively. Harley Bunting took victory in the 12/u 50m free, with Harry Sharpe taking maximum points in the 10/u 50m free. Alex Bryan was barely out of the pool, swimming up an age group and competing in his usual ‘full throttle’ style in all four of his events.
A fine night’s competition was had by all five competing clubs, with hosts Boston the eventual winners. There are many rounds yet to go, so West Norfolk look forward to their next outing.
The club extends thanks to Chris Sykes as coach for the night, Stewart Murray for expertise in refereeing the event, and Charlotte Isle for marshalling and team transportation duties.
