Hadleigh 10 West Norfolk 47

West Norfolk’s young squad continue to improve after returning home with a vital bonus point and victory against a strong Hadleigh side on Saturday.

Forward Ryan Walker gave an outstanding performance as he continues to impress in his first full season of senior rugby.

It was the home team who got off to a good start, with its formidable, experienced pack crashing over for the first score after a series of close-range pick and drives from the ruck.

This was then shortly followed by a second as their powerful scrum drove West backwards to score, extending their lead to 10-0.

However, West recomposed themselves and were finally rewarded after a prolonged period of possession saw the ball worked up the fringes, ending with flanker Sammy Edris bursting over.

Nick Bull added the conversion to close the gap at 10-7 at the interval.

West started the second half with the bit between their teeth, determined to exploit some poor Hadleigh defending out wide.

This resulted with West’s other flanker, Henry Rust, going over following a succession of forward attacks.

Bull once again adding the extra points to make it 14-10.

With West’s superior fitness starting to show, it was not too long before they extended their lead further with centre Sam Corlett hitting a fine gap to touch down for their third try.

Bull then got in the act with a quickly taken tap and go to make it 26-10 in West’s favour.

A tiring Hadleigh began to give several penalties away as they struggled to keep up with the pace of play, allowing the visitors to gain easy territory advantage.

Fly-half Ed Maule rolled back the years with a classy move, dancing through the home defence to score and Bull converted to give West a 33-10 lead.

The sixth try came following a mistake, with a dropped ball being kicked through and Corlett diving on it to increase the advantage to 40-10 with the conversion.

West closed their account with a well-worked catch and drive from the lineout, which ended with

Edris crashing over before Bull converted to finish the game.

Tomorrow, West host top-of-the-table Wymondham.
