The new indoor bowls season has started for Gallow Ladies.

Both teams play in the County Triples Leagues and they are also involved in a number of national knock-out competitions.

The ‘A’ team have come away with two wins and one defeat in the Premier Division of the County Triples League. They beat Diss 7-1 and Roundwood 7.5-0.5. It was a different story away to Norfolk Bowling Club: although leading for most of the match, it all came down to the last end, when Norfolk BC clinched it by three shots resulting in a 7-1 defeat for Gallow.

The ‘B’ team have also played three matches in the Wensum League, which have all been very tight. They lost 6-2 away at Lynnsport and at home versus Hunstanton. The points were shared equally at Pentney Bowls Club 4-4.

The ‘B’ team are progressing very well in the Mason Trophy, a knockout competition for over 60’s. They beat Lakeside convincingly in the first round 61-37 and Norfolk BC ‘B’ team in the second round by 40 shots to 32. The home rink of Bridget Beckham, Mavis Lewis, Eileen Ledgerwood and skipped by Daphne Ramm ensured overall victory. This made up for their defeat in the Vivienne by Norfolk BC.

The ‘A’ team lost to Wymondham Dell in the first round of the Mason and face them again in the Yetton trophy tomorrow.

The Egham trophy is a mixed competition and Gallow have entered again this season, after opting out for a number of years. Drawn against old adversaries Wymondham Dell, in a very one sided contest Gallow won by 119 shots to 59. Next opponents are Pentney on Sunday.
