Gallow IBC (Fakenham) juniors fielded two teams on Sunday against teams from Acle Indoor Bowls Club.

The tournament is a national event managed by the English Indoor Bowling Association for young bowlers under the age of 25.

The team at Acle of Sam Harrington, Shannon Tucker, Ben Hunter and skipped by Daniel Cawthorne won convincingly with a score of 26 shots to 11.

They were never really in danger by the midway point in the 21-end game.

The home team at Gallow of Nicole Moseley, Ashley Stewart, Jack Wells, and skipped by Rhys Morgan had a hard match, at some points under intense pressure from a strong Acle side comprising, like Gallow, several county standard players.

The crunch point came in the 19th end at which point the result of the Acle venue match was known. Gallow had achieved a 15-shot advantage, but at home Morgan’s block were down by 13 shots and looking to lose one more.

After some debate on tactics they ended by losing the shot but remained just one ahead on cumulative scoring.

The 20th end moved from holding one shot with a spectacular draw by Stewart, to an attacking response from Acle for them to lie holding three shots.

Morgan had one bowl to play.

He opted to kill the end and played it to perfection.

The replayed end was again so very close, relying again on Morgan’s last bowl, that it required the umpire to resolve the measure, which gave Gallow another shot to win overall by two.

The match lasted just short of the four hours allowed, and was watched by a large audience.
