King’s Lynn Gymnastics Club finished the year in style with the Christmas Extravaganza display and presentation evening on Saturday evening.

More than 300 gymnasts took part in the display with individually choreographed routines for each group which were performed in front of a massive audience of 800. The evening started with an elite display showcasing the top level gymnasts who compete at regional and national level, including elements of acrobatics and tumbling.

Next up were the pre-school gymnasts, aged between 18 months and 5 years, who performed as little reindeers.

The evening progressed with routines from grade 8 & 7 and Development Squads before the first set of awards presented by the chairman of Alive Leisure Peter Lemon, treasurer Michael Andrews and chief executive Simon McKenna. Awards were presented for the highest achiever in each level.

Awards: Edith Rutty won the pre-school category and Chloe Garner the best effort. Highest achiever in Grade 8 was won by Ellie Proctor, Grade 7 Holly Ford and Development Squad George Paget and Ruby Jefferies.

The next round of displays were Grade 6 & 5, 4 & 3, Elite and a Women’s Pair of Mary Groves and Eleanor Simms.

The second half consisted of the higher level group displays including a Women’s Group of Gemma Pask, Beth Demoore and Maisie Wynne, Grade 2 & 1, Advanced Grade & Elite Men’s Group of Luke Winner, Ben Cooper, William and James Evans who performed a dynamic routine to rapturous applause.

The performance ended with the Elite Tumbling Finale. The air track was used in some impressive displays.

Owen Stannard is part of the Great Britain team and performed with the Elite gymnasts resulting in a high standard of performances.

The final presentations were awarded to: Evie Emmett Grade 2, Jessica McKenzie Grade 1, Lili Hadjou Advanced Grade. Recreational special achievement award: Amy Gregory. Elite group winners: Owen Stannard and Eleanor Simms. Bob Betts Memorial Award: James Newell, who through adversity has continued his training programme. Lemon commented: “This was a most impressive evening staged by the Gym Club which showed off the breadth and depth of its membership from the recreational toddlers to the elite competitors. I would like to thank our dedicated staff team who put in hours of preparation to make this presentation night so successful.”

More than £5,000 was raised, all of which goes to KLGC equipment, coach development and competitions.
