Strong blustery winds typical of the course made good scores in a fourball better ball competition a challenge at Heacham Manor’s sixth Seniors Open.
As in the previous year’s format superb prizes for first and second were available for both the home team and visiting teams with the day’s best score taking the trophy irrespective of the home club.
A competitive field with teams from across East Anglia competed. The tricky conditions on the day reflected in the scores with only the top three breaking 40 stableford points.
From the visiting teams the runners-up with 37 points were Paul Robbins and Trevor Watts from Lakeside Lodge (Cambridge), the winning visiting team were Stan Lee and Les Collen from Ely City with 38.
Of the home club teams David McColm and Chris Edwards shot a good 42 points to come in second; however Keith Whiting and Trevor Howard (who won with a different partner last year) won the home club prizes and overall Seniors Open Trophy, scoring an impressive 44.
A further £168 was collected from a raffle with all proceeds to the captains’ charity of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Lynn.
Seniors Open organiser Graham Gerrish congratulated everyone who contributed.
The next events are the Junior and Parent competition on August 14, the Junior Open on August 15 and the Mixed Open on August 21. Entries are still available and can be downloaded by visiting www.heacham-manor.co.uk or call 01485 536 030.
