King’s Lynn Cycling Club
Bethany and Florence Barnett have been busy representing the junior section of the club this past weekend at three events, writes Ray Barnett.
Friday saw them in Peterborough for a “girls only” evening of cyclocross races, attracting riders from eight clubs across the region. They thoroughly enjoyed it, particularly since Bethany managed second place in the under 12’s and Florence managed third in U10’s.
Sunday saw both girls in Fakenham for Round 12 of the Eastern Cyclocross League. The course was absolutely fantastic with roller coaster climbs, descents and mud.
Bethany raced in the U14’s which is 30 minutes of full-on racing, and finished 2nd U14 girl. Racing in the U10 category, Florence was the highest placed girl, and sixth overall out of 10 in her category.
Lynn CC Go-ride coach Ray Barnett said: “It just goes to show how many opportunities for junior racing there are in our area. If anyone is inspired to have a go, Lynn has its own Go-ride training sessions for 8-16 year olds every Tuesday at Lynnsport between 6pm and 7pm.”
l Phillip Seaman has been elected as the club’s new chairman.
He said: “I feel privileged to become chair of the club that was founded in 1931.”
He would like to encourage more cyclists to join and enjoy the club’s all-inclusive membership: “You can start as an novice and then gain from the wealth of experience of riders who take part in time trials, road races and mountain biking. We have a variety of social rides and fundraising events for various charities.”
