Lynn’s Rob Sayell started his 2015 championship bid in the Formula Jedi class at Silverstone.
A former Grand Prix Midget champion, Rob first moved to the circuit-racing Formula Jedis in 2009. He returned last year with an upgraded chassis and a 2008 1000cc Yamaha bike engine.
Over the winter the car has been improved further still so Sayell hopes to better last year’s 12th spot with a top 10 finish.
The Easter Saturday race proved eventful with a collision on the first corner forcing Sayell to swerve onto the grass verge. Having re-joined at the back of the field, and the race shortened by several laps under a safety car situation, Sayell did well to make up lost ground and finish ninth.
With a drier circuit, Easter Sunday’s race was very competitive. Having qualified 11th on the grid, he made some good overtaking moves to finish a satisfying sixth place. He is sixth overall and is looking forward to the next rounds at Rockingham in mid-May, before two rounds at his local circuit Snetterton in late June.
Rob is pleased to have backing from local companies Gascraft and Wesigns.
“With more engine improvements to come I hope to be able to compete with the more common Suzuki powered front runners. It’s a very competitive series with around only two seconds between the front and rear of the field,” he explained.
“I’d like to thank Wesigns for the new graphics and also my dad Harry and brother Dave for their invaluable support as my pit crew.”
