Lynnsport duo Andy Sayer and Richard Bunton have reached the national semi-finals of the men’s over 60 pairs championship in Nottingham.
They got through on an extra end on Wednesday afternoon to qualify for that evening’s quarter-finals in a very exciting game.
It’s the first time the two have played together in this competition– though both have been playing bowls for many years.
They led Hornsea’s Pete Oliver and Jim Moulds 4-2 at the start, but fell behind and trailed for the rest of the match, before scoring three shots on the last end to tie, 17-17.
On a tense extra end, Sayer and Bunton held shot throughout, and won, 18-17.
In the quarter-finals, Sayer and Bunton had the better of the second half against their more fancied opponents, Condon and Evans, and with Sayer in particularly good form at lead, came out on top, 20-14.
The Lynnsport duo played Mario Rossie and Bill Ward, from Welford-on-Avon, in yesterday’s semi-finals.
