King’s Lynn quintet land age group wins

Fourteen members of King’s Lynn Triathlon Club were in action last weekend with five picking up trophies for age group wins.

At the Norwich sprint triathlon on Saturday, Francesca Hall and Karen Wood both won their age categories (20-24 and 50-54) completing the 750m swim, 18k bike and 5k run in 1.13 and 1.27 respectively. Miles Thomas crossed the line in 1.09 earning him second place in the men’s 40-44 group.

The next morning, in the standard distance event of 1500m swim, 38k bike and 10k run, 10 Lynn athletes were competing on a rainy course. Nicky Roger and Kyle Staples picked up age group wins (40-44 and Juniors 19) and Nicky also scooped a Triathlon Eastern England Region award for standard distance champion in her age. Her time of 2.27 placed her sixth woman on the day. Kyle crossed the line in 2.35.

Of the eight other club mates competing, Ian Kidman was first home in 2.25, followed by Jamie Staples in 2.41, Mark Gaskins in 2.54, Rob Johnston in 2.54, Kirsty Bunting in 3.02, Richard Martin in 3.13 and Julia Pepperill in 3.33.

Over in St Neot’s, Tamlin Hegarty scooped first in her age (35-39) in a standard distance event with a time of 3.09, while Geraldine Jordan was celebrating a four minute PB in her second attempt this year at the sprint event. She completed the 750m swim, 23.9k bike and 5k run in 1.28 earning her second in her 50-54 age group. For more info on KLTC see www.kingslynntria thlonclub.co.uk
