New triathlon club launched

Have your say

A new triathlon club has been launched in Lynn.

Aimed at novices and experienced triathletes alike, the club will run training sessions in the disciplines of swimming, cycling and running.

Response to the creation of the club has been huge and positive.

More than 100 people registered an interest in joining and membership currently stands in excess of 40.

The club has been endorsed and supported by industry body Triathlon England (TE).

An official launch event is planned for Saturday, February 16, at Leziate Village Hall between 2pm and 4pm. Anyone interested in learning more about triathlon and the club and wishing to meet others with shared interests are welcome to attend.

Swim coaching sessions at St James Swimming Pool with qualified coaches are already underway, as are group cycle rides and turbo training sessions as well as run training.

The club will make its base at Leziate Park where it hopes to run open water swimming sessions in the spring and summer, as well as establish bike and run routes.

Triathlon is one of the fastest-growing sports across various distances from super sprint (400m swim, a 10km (6.5 mile) cycle and a 2.5km (1.5 mile) run) to Iron Man (2.4 mile swim,112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run).

World record-breaking triathlete and Ironman champion Chrissie Wellington, an ex-Downham High School pupil, has also helped to highlight the sport.
