North Runcton 2nd XI 201 all out beat Denver 190-6 by 11 runs

North Runcton managed to inflict Denver’s first defeat this season in a very tight game on Sunday.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first Runcton found themselves in a bit of trouble after the loss of captain Sam Major and Jack Goldie after a decent start and then Alex Piggott in quick succession.

Youngster Harvey Cross followed soon afterwards for 4.

Tim Coote, however, continued his fine form with the bat this season as he anchored the tail superbly and was very unlucky to be dismissed for 97 and falling agonisingly short of a well deserved hundred.

He was well supported by under 14 all rounder George Means who struck a rapid 31 and Tom Webb who scored 14 before being run out.

Runcton then put in a fine bowling and committed fielding performance to give themselves a narrow victory.

Credit must be given to Denver youngster Harvey Wadle who scored a superb half century but couldn’t quite get his team over the line.

Pick of the bowlers for Runcton was Webb who finished with 3-50. Means completed a fine all round performance after finishing with 2-37 bowling his leg spin, and Joe Gent bagged 1-18 from eight overs as he carried on his fine form this season.

Credit must also be given to Brock Townley who finished with 0-29 from his seven overs and Jack Trundley who finished his eight overs with 0-19 but both deserved wickets from their very tight bowling spells.

Next weekend sees the second half of the season begin and Runcton host Swaffham 2nd XI.
