Paul’s King’s Lynn pigeon win worth the wait

The New Lynn PFC latest race was from Lyndhurst (2) when nine members sent 111 birds and were released in a NW wind at 1000 hrs, writes Kevin Mason.

After going close in recent races Paul Naughton finally won the top prize when his hen bird took 3hrs 10 mins to fly almost 155 miles.

Result: 1, 4 Paul Naughton & G/Daughter, 1431, 1345; 2 Manning Brothers & Son, 1428; 3 Will Byrne, 1426; 5 Phil & Wayne Vincent, 1325; 6 Kim Peacock & Bernie Byrne, 1317. 1st pools plus the nom: the Manning Boys, 2nd pools: Peter Farrow.

A belated result for the above from Vire in France, in the final old bird race. Seven members sent 59 birds and were liberated in a SW wind at 0900hrs. First win for Paul and Tina Payne & Malc Bunton when their three-year-old cock bird took 8 hrs 4 mins to fly 277 miles.

Result: 1 Paul & Tina Payne & Malc Bunton, 1007; 2, 4, 5 Linda Simper, 1005, 982 (two birds); 3, 6 Eddie, Jim & Guy Perry, 1004, 956.

Wereham FC had seven lofts send 91 birds to Lyndhurst (2). The Hilgay partnership of Paul King and Jim & Wendy Cook had a very good race, winning five of the club’s first six cards. Their winning Staf Van Reet took 3hrs 12 mins to fly the 143 miles.

Result: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 Paul King and Jim & Wendy Cook, 1315, 1314, 1310, 1251, 1250; 4 Allan Coulson, 1302.

Clenchwarton (North) raced from Whitby when seven members sent 57 birds. Wally and Sheila Collins, who had a great old season, won their first young bird race.

Result: 1 Wally & Sheila Collins, 1423; 2 Ted and Sandra Scott, 1408; 3 Gerry Knights & son, 1396; 4, 5, 6 George Moon, 1357, 1311, 1310.

Gaywood

A first win and first three in Fed for Ian Kennedy as five members sent 71 birds from Lyndhurst. The winner clocked 3hr 9m over 155 miles.

Result: 1, 2, 3, 4 Ian Kennedy 1444, 1439, 1431, 1427; 5, 6 Bob & Gloria Ogden & sons 1201, 1034.
