Pigeon fanciers Ogdens from Wretton dominate Federation

The second Fens Federation race of the season was from Newbury when eight clubs sent 1,593 birds.

After taking second to fifth the week before from Bovingdon, the family partnership of Rod and Gloria Ogden and sons from Wretton had another top class race by taking seven positions in the top ten. They won first to third, plus seventh to 10th, this week.

Lynn NRFC had their third race from Seaham Harbour when six members sent 108 birds, and were released in a NW wind at 0900hrs. John Purcell and Sam Denton won their second race with their same yearling and took 2hrs 57 mins to fly almost 156 miles.

Result: 1, 4, 5 John Purcell & Sam Denton, 1542, 1478, 1447; 2 Riches and Anderson, 1526; 3 Her Majesty the Queen.

New Lynn RPC had 15 lofts send 203 birds to Salisbury, and liberated in a light NW wind at 0900hrs. The top racers last season the Manning brothers and son opened their account when their yearling took 2hrs 54 mins to fly 150 miles. They also won 2nd pools. Pat and Julie took 1st pools, plus nom.

Result: 1, 4 Manning Brothers & Son, 1513, 1471; 2, 3 Pat and Julie Royle, 1504, 1483; 5, 6 Linda Simper, 1471 (two birds).

Clenchwarton Victory FC (South), raced from Salisbury when five members sent 101 birds. Still unbeaten in the club this year are Rod & Gloria Ogden who won the first three cards with their Janssen family. Their winner took 2hrs 45 mins to fly 142 miles.

Result: 1, 2, 3 Rod & Gloria Ogden & Sons, 1516, 1515, 1512; 4 George and Ian Dye, 1461; 5, 6 Pete and Dave Ellwood, 1425, 1423.

Clenchwarton Victory (North) had six members send 79 birds to Seaham Harbour. Dale and Neil Dennis won their first race of the season, when their bird took 3hrs 12 mins to fly 160 miles.

Gaywood FC raced from Salisbury when seven members sent 112 birds. Rod and Gloria Ogden once again took the top three positions, and again look to top the Fed with their Janssen’s. Their winner had previously scored a 2nd Fed in the first race.

Seven Wereham lofts sent 96 birds from Salisbury. Second win from three starts for Hilgay’s Paul King and Jim & Wendy Cook; taking 2hrs 41 mins to fly 138 miles.
