During the last couple of weeks it has been the predator anglers present on the banks of the rivers; barely a coarse angler has been seen.

Twenty-plus predator anglers were on the bank at Denver over the weekend.

Pike to 20lb 8oz have shown on dead baits. Zander to 7lb have also been frequently showing on dead baits. Plenty of jacks have been taking the lures and shads that have been presented.

Springside continues to show good form. Carp to 17 lb have been showing. Smaller carp have also been showing to the baits that have been offered. Method feeder continues to be the most rewarding. Various baits have been working including boillies and maggot. Six carp have been reported in single sessions.

Bear Lake: Despite it being quiet during the last few days odd carp to 6lb have shown before. Method feeder has again produced the goods during the better days. Sweetcorn and pellet have been the preferred baits.

Shepherd’s Lake: At last the chub have been the dominant feeders. Chub to 4lb have been showing over the bream baits that have been offered when using bream tactics. Multiple chub catches have been reported.

Maggot and small worms have been rewarding.

Match results from Townsend Lakes fishery Sunday, Cuckoo Canal: 1 Sam Hawkes – peg 33 – 95lb 6oz pole pellet down track; 2 Colin Begbie – peg 11 – 68lb 8oz – long pole pellet and maggot; 3 Rob Blackbourne – peg 35 – 37lb – down margins with maggot and pellet. Next pairs match is on Saturday, March 4.
