Two thirds of the Thompson family membership of Ryston Runners AC could not resist the temptation to take part in the Thompson 10K on Sunday.
This small village event near Watton, backed by Active Norfolk, saw just 50 runners on an off-road course on lanes and bridleways. Emma Thompson was 2nd woman and was joined by Paddy Thompson and Barry Smith.
Results: Barry Smith 14th 43:02, Paddy Thompson 16th 44:28, Emma Thompson 23rd 49:57. There were 44 finishers.
The third Thompson, Phil, was also running off road, taking part in the Coniston 15K where he placed 22nd overall out of 325 in 69 minutes. Clubmates trying fell running in this event, which comprised an elevation of 1,000 feet, were Martin Ive (38th/73 mins), Lesley Robins (13th woman/81 mins), Karen & Andy Smith (97 mins) and Sue Tuff and Julie Ive, 2:05.
Also off-road and over an unorthodox distance, Cath and Peter Duhig took part in the Correlimos 13.4K beach race in San Pedro del Pinatar in the Murcia Region of Spain.
Running cautiously to protect an injured hamstring, Peter placed third in the Veteranos F (Over 60) category in 1:13:37, while Cath, also nursing a long-term injury, walked the course in 1:37:31, to place 264th out of 267 finishers, but also 1st Veterana F, in the absence of any other older women competitors!
The only Ryston Runner known to have taken to the roads, was Andy Wicklen, who aborted his effort in the Bournemouth Marathon, when he incurred a calf problem at 12 miles.
