About 20 Senior and a few Junior Ryston Runners braved the elements and very boggy underfoot conditions to take part in the annual Houghton Cross Country event put on by West Norfolk AC.
In the Senior event there were four Ryston men in the first six finishers, with James O’Neill second, Callum Stanforth third, Malcolm Tuff fourth, and Marcus Hawkins sixth.
Ryston also bagged the first three places in the women’s race, and several members went home be-medaled after winning their categories. Considering their mass support for and success in the day’s sport, Ryston was, once again, named “Club of the Day”.
A more sensible competition choice, given the day’s weather conditions, was that made by Paul Harrison, who was taking part in the London Indoor Games Lee Valley Athletics Centre as a competition warm-up for the forthcoming masters’ championships and matches scheduled over the next few weeks. Paul competed in the Long Jump and 60m.
Also in London, Mark and Marie Doughty were running for charity in the London Winter 10K.
