In the Fakenham Table Tennis League, Snoring A won all four matches they were involved in during the past couple of weeks to close in on their first league title.
Steve Damms, David Foster and Chris Fuller took on a Billingford side of David Lake, Tony Wright and Arthur Lake,
David beat Damms but the next seven games went to Snoring although they were very close. Wright picked up Billingfords second point with a four leg win over Damms but Foster and Fuller both scored maximums and teamed up in the doubles to seal a 8-2 win.
Next up was a trip to Bircham B where they came away with a 9-1 win, Chris Fuller and Steve Damms winning three each, backed up by Garry Crew who had two good wins in five legs against Paul King and four legs versus Neville Lingwood but lost out to impressive play by Stefan Iwanczyk. Fuller and Crew beat King and Iwanczyk in the doubles in four legs.
They followed this up with a good win over a strong Thorpe Nelson side of Mary-Ann Woodhouse, Mick Ruffles and Steve Hales. Hales and Ruffles took a leg off Chris Fuller, David Foster dropped a set to Ruffles and Steve Price came back from two sets down to beat Ruffles in five legs. Foster and Fuller combined to win the doubles against Ruffles and Woodhouse for a 10-0 scoreline.
The Snoring derby followed as David Foster, Chris Fuller and Garry Crew beat Ian Reynolds, Martin Boddy and Dan Humphrey 9-1. The first two matches went to the A side before Crew took the opening leg from Reynolds but he hit back to take the next three legs to get the B side on the scoreboard. Some close games followed including Humphrey taking a leg off Fuller but the A side had the edge and won all the remaining games.
An unchanged Snoring B side travelled to Conservatives’ Andrew Edgeley, Dennis Chamberlain and Pat Johnson in a very tight match. Edgeley and Reynolds the first four legs shared 8-11, 11-9, 14-16,13-11 before Reynolds just edged in the fifth leg11-9.
Chamberlain, who won the decider 11-6, and Humphrey’s game also went to five legs.
Reynolds won all three of his games to put Snoring B 5-4 up going into the doubles where he teamed up with Boddy against Edgeley and Chamberlain but the home side just had the edge in five sets to end up with a 5-5 draw.
Thorpe Nelson side of Mary-Ann Woodhouse, Mick Ruffles and Steve Hales hosted Bircham B’s Paul King, Neville Lingwood and Stefan Iwanczyk. The hosts romped into a 5-0 lead before Iwanczyk had a superb win in four legs over Ruffles and then beat Hales, King also winning against Ruffles. These two combined in the doubles but Woodhouse and Ruffles were too strong and won in three legs for a 7-3 win for Nelson.
A strong Eagles side of Jack Bramwell, Mark Bishop and Kris Wisla hosted Billingford’s Pete Fuller,Tony Wright and Arthur Lake. Bramwell lost to Fuller in three legs. Bishop beat Wright in four and Wisla won in three against Lake. Fuller levelled the scores with a fine win in four legs against Bishop. The next three games went to Eagles before Fuller completed an excellent maximum with a straight sets win over Wisla, he then teamed up with Wright for a doubles win over Bishop and Wisla, but Eagles held out 6-4.
