Sport - Swimming: Nathan is in top form at Ipswich open meet

Have your say

Swimmers from West Norfolk Swimming Club are celebrating more success in the pool.

Competing at the Ipswich Open Meet, West Norfolk swimmers were again to the fore in many of the age groups.

There was strong competition from ten other clubs, including a large team from Flanders Swimming Club in Belgium, giving an international flavour to the meet.

The Belgian team brought along its own trumpet player which added a certain ‘something’ to the whole proceedings.

The meet proved to be highly successful for West Norfolk with 17 swimmers achieving a total of 60 personal bests and 15 age group wins.

Nathan Wells demonstrated his phenomenal all-round ability by dominating the 13/14 year old age group, winning ten-out of the 15 events entered. At the end of the two-day meet he was a staggering 40 points clear of his nearest rival.

Joe Wells was also in fine form, finishing as Top Boy in the 12-year-old age group, another excellent achievement.

Chloe Sorrell had an excellent meet, winning half of the events in which she entered and demonstrating a particular affinity for the backstroke events.

This secured her fourth place overall in the 11-year-old age group.

Many swimmers achieved qualifying times to compete at the Eastern Regional Winter Championships, which are being held in December at Cambridge.

The club wish all swimmers competing the best for this.

West Norfolk Swimming Club would like to congratulate all swimmers who competed at Ipswich.

Thanks go to all of the parents, many of who stayed for the full weekend, for their great support to all the team.

The club also thanks head coach Sarah Vanderloo for keeping the team in order throughout the two days and encouraging some outstanding performances.
