After a five-week sojourn, action returns to Lynn’s Adrian Flux Arena with a packed afternoon of Banger Racing on Sunday (1pm) for the annual Nutcracker event, featuring a big turnout of Unlimited Bangers, 1500cc Bangers and Junior Bangers.
Lynn local Darren Fendley heads the entry in both National Banger classes. An increased focus on his local track this year has brought rich rewards for Fendley, topped by World Championship success in the summer. He also has a healthy lead in the season-long National Points Championship as he seeks to achieve the rare feat of winning both the gold and silver roofs in the same year.
Fendley’s main challengers in the points are Swaffham brothers Ashley and Terry Garrod. Elder brother Terry is the defending champion and it was arguably his prowess in the conditions at this time of year that saw him scorch to success in 2013 and 2014.
On both occasions, Terry’s strong run of form included scooping the 1500cc National Championship which is the title up for grabs in the smaller Bangers this weekend.
Hometown youngster Callum Gill and live wires Ricky Twell and Ross Cooper are among the entry for the Unlimited Nutcracker where more than 50 cars are expected to race. Judging by the action served up by the big cars on Halloween Carnival Night, they should provide plenty of big crashes, thrills and spills.
Gill will double-up in the 1500cc Bangers where, alongside father Russell, he is a contender for National Championship glory.
The near 70-strong 1500cc entry also includes Lynn locals Jake Burgess, Simon Eglen, Chris Loveridge, Gavin Oakes, Karl Thorpe and Dersingham entertainer Sam Coote who will all be out to enjoy themselves and entertain the crowd in the last action before Christmas.
